*Keep live matter 1/4″ from final trim (or 3/8″ from bleed) from page top, bottom, face/outside edge, and 1/4″ from the gutter. Publication to trim 1/8″ off head, foot, and face. A final proof ruled to final trim size to show ad position on page must be supplied. Note: For preprinted supplied units, add 1/8″ to unit width for 1/8″ gutter grind off.

U.S. Edition Procedures for Advertising Digital Files:
PENTHOUSE will accept digital files for cover ads, run-of-book full-page ads, spread ads, and fractional ads.
TWO PROOFS AND ONE DISK ARE REQUIRED.
Please provide a complete listing of the advertising file content with each digital file.
Required File Formats:
Native Layout Application (Macintosh only)
• QUARK XPRESS, ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR, ADOBE IN-DESIGN
When sending native layout applications:
ALL LINKED IMAGES ARE TO BE INCLUDED
• Images MUST BE AT LEAST 300dpi
• All images MUST BE CMYK (No Exceptions)
• Four Color images must have a Total Ink Density of no greater than 300%
• Acceptable image formats include: TIFF & EPS
• No file compression may be applied
• All PhotoShop images must be flattened (no layers)
• Any complex clipping paths must have flatness value of 2
LAYOUT DOCUMENTS MUST BE STERILIZED
• Paste boards must be cleared of all images
• PANTONE colors must be converted to CMYK process
• All un-used colors must be deleted
• Type faces and images must NOT be stylized in Quark/Illustrator/In-Design
• Images may NOT be rotated in layout program the must be rotated in Photoshop
ALL FONTS MUST BE INCLUDED
• All fonts must be TYPE 1 MACINTOSH fonts (no TrueType, or Multiple Master fonts)
• Both Screen and Printer fonts must be include for each font

Document Size Specifications:
Pages are to be created to the final trim size
• No Large Pages with a box that represents the final trim size
• PENTHOUSE FULL PAGE SIZE IS 8 X 10 3/4 (final trim)
• Pages must have 1/8″ (.125) bleed on all sides, no more
• Pages must have type safety of 1/4″ (.25) away from final trim
• Do not build in to the page anything other than the bleed
Hard Copy Proofs:
• 2 Copies of the proof MUST be supplied
• High-End Digital Proofs Only
• Color Laser, Thermal Wax, or Most Ink-Jet Proofs are not acceptable
• Black and White composites, with colors clearly broken out, or black and white color separations are acceptable for two or one color advertising pages.
• All proofs must conform to SWOP standards.

Proofs for Web Offset:
All proofs must be pulled from the supplied digital file, must be in exact register and must be final in color and copy representation. A minimum of two proofs for B/W and color ads is required.
Acceptable proof:
Wet process progressive proofs, Matchprints II and Cromalins prepared to SWOP standards. Proofs must bear color bars in the standard GATF/SWOP offset format. Computer low-resolution digital proofs, Negative Cromalins and color keys are not acceptable.
If a minimum of three proofs for U. S. and Canadian editions is not received, publication waives color quality responsibility.
Proofing Inks for Web Offset, wet process progressive proofs:
Use AAAA/MPA offset standard hues for web offset proof on SWOP approved (100# covers, 50# run-of-book) stock. Proof head to foot, color rotation: yellow, cyan, magenta, black or yellow, magenta, cyan, black. Proof in densities plus or minus .05 density variance to the current SWOP process ink swatches.
2/Color P.M.S. (Pantone Matching System) Advertising:
Whenever possible, PENTHOUSE matches P.M.S. colors with process inks. Separate P.M.S. colors that can be produced with process colors and the advertising rate will remain 2/color.
Return Advertising Material:
Material will not be returned to agency and/or advertiser until two months after the issue advertising closing date. Ad materials are held for 12 months and then destroyed.
Note:
Publisher cannot be held responsible for advertising reproduction quality when specifications are not adhered to, or when materials are not received by advertising material closing date. Advertisers who request material extensions cannot be guaranteed the option of material replacement if their materials do not meet standard offset specifications.
Advertising Preprinted Supplied Units:
Contact Maria Ramroop, Advertising Production Manager, for complete mechanical specifications, packing/shipping specifications, and delivery due dates. A ruled-up dummy showing final trim and paper sample of the unit, followed by a ruled-up blueline proof showing final trim of the unit, must be submitted to Vanessa Johnson for bindability approval prior to the unit being printed. Copy approval of unit content is required prior to acceptance by the publication.
Advertising Bind-In Card Inserts Printed by PENTHOUSE:
If PENTHOUSE is to print an advertiser’s bind-in card, card materials are due to PENTHOUSE Advertising Production by the insertion order closing date, the first of the month three months prior to the cover date. Preferred material: Digital file and high-resolution proof two proofs pulled from the digital file.
Advertising Special Units:
Special units to be printed by the publisher include cover gatefolds, inside gatefolds, continuous sheet spreads, etc. Please contact Maria Ramroop, Advertising Production Manager, for complete mechanical specifications. A ruled-up final ad proof showing final trim of the unit must accompany the supplied film. The insertion order closing date is one month earlier for special press reservation and special paper acquisition. Material is due on normal advertising material closing date.
